Welcome to Queensbury Celtic Junior Football Club, one of the highest football clubs in England. At 1100' above sea level it is no surprise the weather is always a topic of conversation. If you have had the pleasure of playing or watching at Pit Lane you may have already experienced the chill wind, rain, sleet and snow (probably in the same day) and if not you have been warned.
We trust you will find the hospitality much warmer from a club with an excellent reputation in junior football spanning 30 years. Co-founder and Chairman Arthur Peel formed the club in 1978 to provide children and young people the opportunity to play football in a safe and friendly environment. That simple philosophy exists today and is central to every decision the club makes to develop and improve the playing experience for all.
Peel Hall: Our long term goal of a dedicated indoor training hall at our Pit Lane site has been achieved! The 900sq metre facility has been up and running since the end of last year and is in use every night of the week. We are now exploring the possibilities of laying a specialist sports surface and adding additional storage space.
Clubhouse upgrade: To complement the opening of Peel Hall a dedicated band of volunteers has transformed the front of the clubhouse. A bright ‘cafe’ area has been created which is proving popular with both players and parents. We have now received a grant from Bradford Council to start work on improving the rest of the clubhouse by upgrading the changing rooms, toilets and showers.
New status: The club is now registered as a limited company. As a non-profit making organisation we have also registered as a charity.
Improved grounds: You only have to stroll on our Pit Lane fields to notice the huge improvement in the playing surface over the past year. The players really appreciate it! This is down to James Robertshaw from the Farm Shop. A very big thank you to James for his massive and enthusiastic commitment in time and resources. Given the club’s commitment to quality and safety we have also invested in four new 11-a -side goals which will be ready for the start of next season.
Work with local schools: the club is taking a leading role in Bradford through a partnership project with West Riding County FA to support the development of football through our local primary schools. Our coaches will be working alongside WRFA coaches in the schools and a schools’ tournament will be held at Pit Lane in July. We have already hosted a football competition for the primary schools. The schools expressed their thanks to the club as, given the bad weather earlier in the year, it was only possible to proceed with the event thanks to our indoor facility.
Quality counts: Queensbury Celtic continues to strive towards the highest levels in club football for children and young people. We measure ourselves against the FA quality standards and already hold the FA Charter Standard. Thanks to the hard work of our Football Development Officers, managers and other volunteers we are now ready to apply for the higher and more demanding accreditation as an FA Development Club
Where it matters: At the end of the day there can be only one real measure of how well we are doing.... and that is the experience we offer for children and young people. On this count we are doing pretty well too! Numbers of youngsters playing and training with us on a weekly basis is up to around 250. We have provision for all the ages groups from age 6 to u16s plus a girls squad. And each team has at least one FA qualified coach to ensure a high quality and fun football experience.
So all in all, the past year’s achievements at Queensbury Celtic reminds us that we are .... well and truly, a club to be proud of! |
